Burger Bob's gets new lease at Gables golf course
A tiny popular eatery on the edge of the Granada Golf Course got a reprieve last week when the city approved a new lease for Burger Bob's.

Burger Bob's, the popular diner-type eatery with a view of the first tee of the Granada Golf Course, is safe.
At least until next fall.
City commissioners on Tuesday approved a renewal of the lease with Bob Maguire for the eatery, which had been included as an option in a request for proposals for a new operator of the country club across the street.
Loyal diners breathed a collective sigh of relief.
After 15 years, Maguire was not allowed to renew his lease this year when it expired in August. Instead, the city administration put the eatery, which was formerly the Granada Snack Shop, on a month-to-month basis as it took proposals for the Country Club of Coral Gables that could have included operation of the golf course, pro shop and restaurant.
But the only proposal came in without exercising that option and the city's property advisory board last month voted to offer Maguire a year lease under the same conditions.
Maguire, who was shocked when he learned he would not be automatically allowed to renew his lease, told The Miami Herald this week that he was relieved the commission gave him at least another year.
But he said he already knows he's going to want to renew again.
''I want to be here for as long as I can,'' Maguire, 72, said Tuesday as he closed the shop at 3:30 p.m. The Miami Shores resident is usually in by 5 a.m., making his famous chili and getting other entrees ready.
He said he was very touched by the groundswell of support the community showered him with when they learned of his possible closing.
Residents called and wrote city hall urging leaders not to let it happen.
And he's not going to make any big changes.
``I'm going to keep things the way they are. That's why everybody in the Gables wants me to stay.''
