Mo Steel are flag football chamoions

The Mo Steel Juniors of the Prime Time Football League and the Michael-Ann Russell Jewish Community Center won the 2008 NFL Flag National Championship, defeating the Bears from Chicago in the final.

  • Professional soccer player Tab Ramos spoke with students at North Miami's Aspira North Charter School as part of a joint national effort with Subway Restaurants to combat juvenile obesity among Latinos. The joint initiative is called, "Scoring a Goal for our Youth."

    Professional soccer player Tab Ramos recently met with some 300 inner-city, middle-school students at North Miami's Aspira North Charter School to speak about good nutritional eating habits and living an active lifestyle.

    Fairway Park Gators beat Lightning

    The 7-8 Fairway Park Gators' defense led them to victory over the Lightning. Brad Lipkowitz and Aaron Rodriguez combined to score all of the Gators' goals. Noa Snitzer and Kevin Nacimiento played good defense for the Lightning.

    5-6-year-old Magic and Raptors tie 8-8

    The 5-6-year-old Aventura Magic and Raptors tied 8-8. Chase Pordes from the Raptors led his team with six points. Gabriel Tourgeman and Dylan Barron played excellent defense and rebounded well. The Magic were led by Max Fuentes and Tyler Greenberg, who showed good ball-handling skills and passing. Pyrce Markson had six rebounds for the Magic.

    The 6-under Cubs came from behind and rallied for four runs to edge the Gen-Ex Builder Hurricanes 17-16. The Canes scored seven runs in the last inning to take a three-run lead but could not contain the Cubs. Kainen Jorge had the game-winning single for the Cubs.     Cross country teams shine throughout season

    Coached by Alpha Omega Elite Track Team, the Epiphany Catholic School cross-country teams have had several successes this season. In the beginning of the year, the slowest mile average was 10:30 and the fastest was 7:30. By the end of the season, the slowest mile average on the team was 8:30 and the fastest was 6:40.

    The T-Ball Coastal Tug and Barge Cubs ended their season with a good display of hitting and fielding in the Perrine Baseball and Softball Association. Ryan Leavy, Dylan Fogelsanger, Jacob Holcombe, Justin Irizarry, Allan Sequira and Carlos Arellano had two hits apiece. Adrian Gonzalez, Jeffrey Kline, Daniella Beck, Jacob Tandron and Amir Mohamed all played good defense.
